The Sidearm (Sidewinder anti-radiation missile) was a short-range, anti-radar missile developed to counter air-defense weapons. It was an inexpensive self-defense missile for U.S. Marine Corps fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft.
The missile used the same airframe and some components from AIM-9C Sidewinders that had been in storage since the 1970s. The intent of the program was to supply a low-cost alternative to destroy ground-based radars associated with SAM and AAA batteries....
