The Iron Dome is a mobile short-range defense system designed to shoot down rockets, artillery and, potentially, mortar rounds in all weather conditions. It is intended to serve as part of a two-tiered missile defense system along with the Stunner (David's Sling) interceptor system. The Iron Dome is aimed at defeating Kassam and Katyusha rockets fired by militants from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
