The Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system (formerly known as Sea-Based Midcourse Defense) is one-half of the Midcourse Defense Segment (MDS) of the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).
