The RIM-2 Terrier shipboard surface-to-air missile (SAM) was a beam-riding medium-range missile. It first entered service in 1955 aboard the converted heavy cruisers BOSTON (CAG-1) and CANBERRA (CAG-2). The missile's size and weight restricted its deployment to aircraft carriers, cruisers and large destroyers.
