The RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) was developed to provide a rapid-reaction, short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) for shipboard defense using off-the-shelf components. RAM has the infrared (IR) seeker from the Stinger SAM and the rocket motor, fuze and warhead from the Sidewinder air-to-air missile (AAM).
