The Derby advanced beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile is an active radar, all-weather, all-aspect air-to-air missile that permits several targets to be engaged from short range to beyond visual range.
The missile has two operating modes: lock-on-after-launch (LOAL), optimized for medium range, and lock-on-before-launch (LOBL), which works best at short range, providing excellent operational flexibility.
