The Aster future surface-to-air family (FSAF) system, formerly known as FAMS or family of anti-air missile systems, consists of building block components, individually selected to meet the requirements of the specific combat role. These components are: the Aster 15 or 30 missile; Arabel or Empar multi-function radar; launcher system; fire-control and command-and-control system. The Aster Naval is a shipboard system, while the Aster Garde is a ground-based variant.
