The final generation of one of the earliest air-to-air missiles (AAM) in the U.S. inventory, the Super Falcon was still carried on Air Force F-106s for the strategic air defense mission. (F-106s were retired during the 1980s.)
The AIM-4G had an all-aspect homing capability. The AIM-4D had only a tail engagement capability, but featured greater maneuverability and was designed as an anti-fighter weapon.
