The M18A1 anti-personnel land mine is a type of Claymore mine with a shotgun-like effect. These are directional, fragmentation, high-explosive (HE) anti-personnel (apers) land mines that may be electrically or non-electrically initiated. It was developed from the M18 land mine, which was produced based on the lessons learned from the infantry wave attacks by Chinese forces during the Korean War. The M18A1 replaced the M18 in 1966.
