Merkava Mark 3 main battle tank

The Merkava Mark 3 is built on the design philosophy of the earlier Merkava Mark 1 and Mark 2, but incorporates so many new components that it represents essentially a different tank in terms of performance and capabilities.

The basic hull has been lengthened by 18 in (457 mm). Additional diesel fuel cells are fitted in the hull rear. The basic turret casting was lengthened by 9 in (230 mm). The complete turret armor array around the crew was redesigned to a modular configuration....
