Once the principal main battle tank (MBT) of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, the M48 was fully replaced by the M60 in U.S. service. It was a development of the previous M47 Patton. The M48 featured significant technical differences from its predecessor, including a new turret and chassis, revised suspension and more powerful engine.
