The M36 tank destroyer consisted of a U.S. Sherman M4A3 chassis with thinned armor. The turret had a large mantlet and long bustle. The M36 hull had a steep glacis with prominent drive sprocket "knees" on each side. Behind the glacis, the hull had a sloping roof line, although on the M36, the hull appeared to be slightly wider since it was aligned with the side skirts.

The M36 fired high-explosive (HE), armor-piercing capped (APC) and high-velocity armor-piercing (HVAP)...
