The M1 Abrams is the principal main battle tank (MBT) of the U.S. Army. The M1A1, armed with the Rheinmetall-designed 120-mm smoothbore gun, is possibly the best (and most expensive) combination of firepower, mobility and protection of any tank in Western service.
