The AMX-30 was the principal main battle tank (MBT) of the French army. It is has been supplemented by the Leclerc MBT in both French and United Arab Emirates service.
The AMX-30 emphasizes mobility and firepower over protection. It is relatively light and fast and well-armed with a 105-mm CN-105-F1 rifled gun, but has thinner armor than most other MBTs.
