The AMX-13 is a long-serving light tank. The initial concept design studies began in 1946 and the tank went into service in the early 1950s. Originally fielded as a tank destroyer and reconnaissance vehicle, the AMX-13 chassis has been adapted to serve as the AMX VCI armored personnel carrier (APC); twin 30-mm DCA air defense vehicle; armored recovery vehicle; 105-mm self-propelled howitzer; and 155-mm Mk F3 self-propelled gun.
