The Al Khalid is a Pakistani main battle tank developed with Chinese assistance. It is an evolution of the Chinese Type 59, Type 69-II and Type 85 tanks.
The tank has a conventional layout, with the driver's compartment at the front, turret in the center and powerpack at the rear. It is physically very similar to the Chinese Type 90-II. The turret and hull are constructed from all-welded steel, with an additional layer of composite armor fitted over the frontal arc.
