The M58 is a large-area smoke generator system that is mounted on the M113A3 armored personnel carrier (APC). The M113A3 incorporates an upgraded engine and transmission, external fuel tanks and a new driver's station. These improvements give the M58 sufficient mobility to operate with the M1, M2 and M3 heavy combat vehicles it is designed to protect.
