The Ferret was developed from the Daimler Scout Car that served with British forces throughout World War II.
A prototype appeared in 1950, with production beginning in 1952. The basic design has undergone many changes and upgrades, principally in armament outfits, suspension and tire size.
A typical Ferret is a rear-engined, four-wheel drive armored car. Many are deployed with a spare wheel and tire mounted on the left side of the hull.
