The Italian VCC-1 Camallino design is based on the U.S. M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) and uses the same suspension and powertrain.

In appearance, the VCC-1 hull more closely resembles the U.S. Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV), an M113 derivative (see separate database entry).
