The RG-33L is a medium-weight 6 x 6 mine-protected vehicle derived from South Africa's RG-31 Nyala chassis. It features a monocoque V-shaped hull that provides blast protection from mines, improvised explosive devices and other explosives.
Beginning in 2007, the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and the U.S. Army ordered RG-33L vehicles as part of the large-scale program to produce almost 30,000 mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles.
