The Namer infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) is an Israeli vehicle initially based on the Merkava Mk 1 chassis and incorporating concepts from the Merkava Mk 4 . Production models utilize new-build hulls that are similar to the Merkava Mk 4 . This was considered more practical and cost-effective than conversion.

Namer is an abbreviation for Nagmash Merkava, or Merkava armored carrier, which is also Hebrew for leopard.
