The Matador is part of a family of South African 4 x 4 mine-resistant armored vehicles. It has a double-skin monocoque hull structure that provides protection against kinetic energy projectiles at NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4569 Level 3. Extra protection can be employed against specific threats, such as rocket-propelled grenades.
