Based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha, the 8 x 8 wheel LAV-25 was developed initially for both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to use as an air-portable APC and reconnaissance vehicle. It has been built in a number of different versions. The LAV-25 has sloping hull sides and a severely sloped glacis. The four wheels on each side have no skirts or fenders.
