Based on the AMX-13 tank, the AMX VCI (vehicule de combat d'infanterie) has been in service for almost six decades. It has been fielded in a variety of roles including command vehicle, mortar carrier, cargo carrier, combat engineer vehicle and ambulance.
The French army replaced most of its VCIs with AMX-10P and VAB vehicles; the vehicle is no longer in French service.
