The U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) -- formerly known (until September 2003) as the Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) – was intended to replace the AAV7A1 family of vehicles. The EFV was to be the cornerstone of the Marine Corps "Operational Maneuver From The Sea" (OMFTS) doctrine (along with the MV-22 Osprey and the Landing Craft Air Cushion).
