The Liberty air defense system was originally developed for the U.S. Army competition for a Forward Area Air Defense System/Line of Sight-Forward-Heavy (FAADS/LOS-F-H), but lost to the Martin Marietta/Oerlikon Buhrle ADATS system.
The Liberty was a variant of the Shahine system, which was in service with Saudi Arabia. The Liberty system offered to the U.S. Army consisted of 12 LTV VT-1 hypervelocity missiles, two 25-mm M242 Bushmaster cannons and the Thomson-CSF (now Thales) TRS...
