The 75-mm M20 recoilless rifle consists of a barrel and breech mechanism group and is designed to be fired from a machine-gun tripod mount. The M1917A1 machine-gun mount was often used. The weapon could also be mounted on vehicles.
The M20 fires high-explosive anti-tank-tracer (HEAT-T); high-explosive plastic-tracer (HEP-T) and target practice (TP); and white phosphorous (WP) ammunition. HEAT rounds are capable of penetrating 4 in (100 mm) of armor.
