The U.S. M59 is an excellent 155-mm towed gun that is still in limited service. It is no longer in U.S. service.
It was originally designated M1 in 1938, following almost two decades of development from a French artillery piece. The M1, popularly known as the "Long Tom," was redesignated the M59 in 1946.
