The 105-mm M52 self-propelled howitzer was an immediate post-World War II development that used several of the components of the M41 light tank and the 155-mm M44 self-propelled howitzer, which were also developed shortly after the war. The engine of the M52 is located in the front of the hull, with the turret/crew compartment at the rear.
