The Hawkeye is a lightweight, modular 105-mm howitzer that is designed to be integrated with a range of vehicles. The system is expected to be highly mobile and deployable, with excellent firepower and command and control. The gun's manufacturer, the Illinois-based Mandus Group, says it will be a superior alternative to existing systems such as the 106-mm recoilless rifle, 120-mm mortar and other 105-mm howitzers due to its low cost and precision strike capability.
