These U.S. naval guns are the world's largest guns on a mobile platform. They form the main gun battery of the U.S. Navy's IOWA (BB-61) class battleships (now retired) and are the largest guns ever mounted in warships, except for the inactive 18.1-inch guns of the Japanese YAMATO-class battleships and the 18-inch gun of the British battlecruiser FURIOUS. The 16-inch/50-caliber guns were also intended for the five battleships of the MONTANA (BB-67) class that were never built.
