The Mk 12 5-in/38-cal (127-mm) gun was used in single or twin mounts in all U.S. World War II-built aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers and destroyers as well as numerous destroyer escorts, landing ships and auxiliary ships. The gun was housed in twin mounts (Mk 28/32/38) and in single mounts, both open (Mk 24/30) and shielded (Mk 30). Many modifications to these mounts were produced.
