The Mk 38 is a small caliber naval gun utilizing the M242 Bushmaster cannon. The gun is fitted to the Mk 88 pedestal mounting and is in service with a variety of U.S. ships.

The Mk 88 pedestal is not stabilized and is hand-aimed. The mount can easily be adapted to different caliber guns, including the 30-mm and 40-mm Mk 44 Bushmaster II cannons.

The Mk 38 Mod 0 can be fitted with Northrop Grumman's AN/PVS-20 sight.
