This 90-mm gun was the original main armament for the M48 series tank. It fired the same ammunition as its predecessor, the M36 gun mounted in the M47 tank, but weighed less.
The gun fired high-explosive with tracer (HE-T), HE anti-tank (HEAT-T), anti-personnel (APERS-T), canister (CAN), armor-piercing (AP-T), capped AP (APC-T), high-velocity AP (HVAP-T) and smoke (WP) projectiles.
