The 90-mm M36 tank gun is the main armament of the U.S.-built M47 Patton tank. It was based on the World War II-era M1 90-mm anti-aircraft gun with a muzzle brake and fume extractor added. The turret was also fitted with the M12 optical rangefinder.
The 90-mm gun fitted to the M48 series uses the same ammunition, but was developed later and is a lighter weapon.
The M36 fires the following projectiles: high-explosive with tracer (HE-T), HE anti-tank (HEAT-T), anti-personnel...
