The UNASUR I is a basic trainer program based on an Argentinean design. The project was originally led by Argentina's state-run Fabrica Argentina de Aviones Brigadier San Martin (FAdeA) aerospace firm. Venezuela has since taken the lead. The project is named for the Union of South America (UNASUR). Member states are the initial customers for the trainer.
