The IAR28MA was a Romanian-designed sailplane modified for duty as a two-seat basic flight trainer.
The configuration of the IAR28MA betrayed its sailplane origin. It had broad straight wings set low forward of the fuselage midpoint, a nose-mounted piston engine, long and slim tailboom with T-tail and small fixed tailwheel, and side-by-side cockpit.
The IAR28MA did not carry weapons.
