The Phantom Ray was a fighter-sized uncrewed aerial vehicle developed by Boeing from its X-45C demonstrator. It was designed as a testbed for advanced technologies.
The program was a private venture by Boeing that built on work conducted under the Joint Unmanned Combat Air System (J-UCAS) program, which was canceled in early 2006 (see separate record). A navalized version of the air vehicle, dubbed the X-45N, failed to win a Navy competition for the Unmanned Combat Air System...
