The Altair high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was a scientific research platform variant of the Predator B used by NASA.
Equipped with multiple redundant systems to support certification for operation in U.S. airspace, the Altair was controlled with C-band (line-of-sight) and Ku-band (over-the-horizon) links operating the redundant, fault-tolerant avionics. It could fly in remote mode or fully autonomous mode.
