The Moss was an airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft converted from retired Tu-114 Cleat commercial airliners, which in turn were derivatives of the Tu-20/95 Bear strategic bomber. The Moss differs from the Bear in its deeper fuselage and low-set wing. It was the first Soviet aircraft equipped with a rotodome (rotating radar antenna).
