The UH-1Y Venom is part of Bell's H-1 upgrade program for UH-1N and AH-1W helicopters in U.S. Marine Corps service. The Venom has 84 percent commonality of major components with the upgraded AH-1Z Viper. Shared dynamics, avionics and survivability suites significantly reduces the logistics tail, procurement and training costs required to support a large fleet of mixed aircraft, according to Bell. Cost savings were estimated at $3 billion over the life of the program.
