The RAH-66 Comanche, nicknamed "The Duke" in honor of actor John Wayne, was the U.S. Army's reconnaissance and attack helicopter under development by Boeing Sikorsky. The RAH-66, formerly known as the Light Helicopter Experimental (LHX) program, was inaugurated in 1981 to develop a replacement forapproximately 7,000 light utility and scout helicopters reaching obsolescence. The Comanche's armed reconnaissance mission was to replace the AH-1 Cobra, OH-58 Kiowa and OH-6 Cayuse ....
