The first Apache squadron stationed in Europe arrived in August 1987 as part of REFORGER '87.

In December 1989, 11 Apaches flew 200 hours of missions in support of the U.S. military operation "Just Cause" to remove Panamanian General Manuel Noriega; 66 percent of the flying time was at night. According to the U.S. Army, three AH-64s were damaged by ground fire, one aircraft taking 32 7.62-mm hits, but were back in service within 24 hours. The Army reported that Hellfire missiles...
