The AH-1 Cobra series of attack helicopters are designed for close air support and anti-tank missions. The Cobra series was derived from the UH-1 Iroquois utility/transport helicopter, retaining the rotor, transmission and engine in a completely redesigned fuselage. The manufacturer's designation is Model 209 Huey Cobra . The single-engine Cobra comes in a variety of variants (see separate database entries for twin-engine Super Cobra variants such as the AH-1J , AH-1W and AH-1Z).
