The J-8 (Jian-8), or F-8, is based on the preceding J-7 fighter, which is a Chinese adaptation of the Soviet MiG-21 Fishbed.
The two main variants of the J-8 share a basic configuration, but have different nose and intake arrangements. The J-8-I retains the nose engine air intake of the Soviet original, while the J-8-II has a solid conical nose housing a monopulse radar. Rectangular intakes are placed at the wing roots.
The sharply set delta wing is similar in both variants....
