The An-124 Ruslan (NATO Condor) heavy-lift cargo/transport aircraft is similar in size and role to the U.S. C-5 Galaxy, but has a heavier maximum payload than the C-5. The Ruslan features fly-by-wire (FBW) controls, 34 on-board computers, a cavernous drive-through cargo hold, relatively modern high-bypass turbof an engines and the use of carbon-fiber and fiberglass materials for many of its non-structural skin and fairing sections.
