The ATR 42 is the product of a joint venture by France and Italy to build a moderately priced regional airliner and medium cargo aircraft. Sold primarily in civil markets, military variants of the ATR 42 have also been developed.
The ATR 42 has a high, narrow, two-stage tapered/straight wing set at the fuselage mid-point. The two turboprop engines are set in nacelles just inside the junction of the straight and tapered sections of the wing.
