The Harrier series was an advanced fixed-wing vertical/short takeoff and landing (VSTOL) combat aircraft, and was one of the few aircraft to enter U.S. military service that was not an original domestic product (see separate database entry for AV-8B Harrier II). None of the U.S. AV-8A/Cs purchased for the U.S. Marine Corps remains in service.
