The U.S. has conducted its first airstrike against militant targets in Somalia since the beginning of the year, reports Military.com.
On Tuesday, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) aircraft struck a single target in Galkayo, about 430 miles (700 km) northeast of Mogadishu, according to a Defense Dept. spokeswoman.
The strike supported Somali soldiers on the ground who were being attacked by Al-Shabaab fighters, she said.
