Al-Shabaab, ("youth" in Arabic). Also known as Mujahideen Youth Movement, Harakat Shabab al-Mujahideen, Hizbul Shabaab, Al-Shabaab al-Islamiya, Youth Wing, Al-Shabaab al-Islaam, al-Shabaab al-Jihaad and the Unity of Islamic Youth. Published accounts indicated the group officially changed its name to the Somali Islamic Emirate in December 2011, though subsequent social media posts by Al-Shabaab denied the name change.
